Internship Reflection # 3 February 25, 2009

This week i was in the records department again. there was not much to do when i had got there so i browsed through random records. i then looked through the most recent records and reports that happened. then after a while it started to get busy. people were calling a lot. i observed the clerks doing there jobs. i had to answer the phone calls and i looked for reorts and records in two different systems. i watched the clerks attend to people at the window for reports. they asked people for the report number and whether it was an accident or incident. then i also had to make faxes. then later the clerks got requests for reoports in the mail and i looked up those reports in the computer and printed them out. i put them in an envelope and sealed them. later i brought them to the mailbox.

Internship reflection # 2 February 11, 2009

When I came in today lindsey brought me to the records department. I got in at 8:00. In the morning it was slow and there was not much to do. One of the clerks signed me on the computer at my desk so that I could see the records and reports. After that I met the sergeant and he told me a little about the department. Then I also met a couple of the police officers. I got to see what a state of Rhode Island Uniform crash report looked like. It showed all the persons information. it tells the insurance company's name, policy names, what the make of the car is, seat positions, if the airbags deployed, report number etc. I watched how they attended to customers at the window. The clerks first asked if it was an accident or other. they take the report numbers from the customers and type it into the computer. they they find the report and tell the customer how much it isand they pay for it. I was able to send faxes to the insurance company's. I had to answer phone calls and look through three different systems to try and find the reports. I could of done an incident search, case search, global subject search, or you can look through the crash reporting system by using a report number, date, street location, last name, or registration number. I also learned how to transfer phone calls. I had to write information down on paper for a person that called and we had to call him back. Then I helped the clerks, I went an looked up reports in the computer and printed them out. I put them in an envelope to be mailed to the insurance company's. I then took all the mail to the mailbox. I liked today because I was able to do more then last week and I learned some more about the department.

Internship reflection # 1 February 4, 2009

At internship this week i was in the records department in the police station. while i was there i watched how they did there job. they had to look up information on the computer. they also had to attend to people at the window. they had to take phone calls. They showed me how to look up records, whats steps to do for certain records. you have to ask people if an officer took the report. if people want to come in for a report the hours to come in at nine to nine thirty and its twenty five cents per page and no report is more then five dollars. they also let me send faxes. i had to type in the last five digits of the report # and then search its and it comes up.it was an interersting day, and it was a little fun.
